All Your Twisted Secrets

All Your Twisted Secrets By: Diana Urban Reviewed by: MEEE How I found this book: Personally, I love murder mystery books. I searched up on google some good murder mystery books for teens, and this came up. I found this book very similar to One of Us is Lying. It was a lot better than I expected. And the ending was so unpredictable. A bad habit I have when I'm reading is sometimes I end up skipping to the end, so I can look for clues. But you shouldn't do that. The only problem with this book, was that it is a bit more of a mature read. It has a lot of mention of suicide. Overall, this book is so suspenseful, and it was such an exciting read.  Summary:  Welcome to dinner, and again, congratulations on being selected. Now you must do the selecting. What do the queen bee, star athlete, valedictorian, stoner, loner, and music geek all have in common? They were all invited to a scholarship dinner, only to discover it’s a trap. Someone has locked them into a room with a bomb, a syr...

The Amazing, Wonderful, Fantastical, Beautiful Flute Part 1

I have been playing the flute for three years now, since the start of sixth grade. Playing the flute has been a special part of my life. I am in my school wind ensemble, and I even got into ILMEA! I have looked back at solos I have done from the start of sixth grade till now. I see so much improvement. My tone is much more pleasant, and my vibrato sounds so much more mature. This goes in showing, how practice really does make things better. What's funny is, at the end of sixth grade, the highest note I could play was a g. But now the highest I an play is a really, really high b natural. The flute has been proven to benefit the brain, so its not only fun to play but it is good for you too. Physically, it promotes good posture and better breathing. As well as playing the flute, I run too. The breathing the flute taught me, helps me when I run. The flute also relieves stress. During school, the flute would always make me feel happier, and calmer.  Did you know?????? That there a...

Family Vacation Time

I love going on vacation don't you? There are so many exciting places to visit, with things to do for every type of person. There are places for people who want to relax or go on an adventure. Below are some places I have traveled, that I would recommend going to! 1. Maldives We went to Maldives last summer and had an amazing time. I experienced a lot of firsts there. I went scuba diving for the first time in my life. Although it was not a full experience(the instructor teaching us held on to our oxygen tanks, to keep us from swimming away), we still saw so many amazing fish. There were so many different shapes and sizes along with colorful coral. We saw schools of fish, and they swam in between us. They were so close I could almost touch them. On top of seeing the sea animals we saw an abandoned shipwreck. It was a smaller sized ship compared to the ones in movies, but it was so cool! Another first I had there was walking on a white sand beach. These beaches are completely ...

Milk Chocolate is Better Than Dark Chocolate

Imagine going to the store because you’re in the mood for chocolates. But when you get to the store, you see so many options. There’s pink chocolate, white chocolate, salted caramel, unsweetened chocolate, etc. You have narrowed it down to two choices. Milk chocolate or dark chocolate. That’s why I’m here today, to help you make the right choice, the best choice.  To start, I conducted a poll. A poll to determine how many people will choose milk chocolate over dark chocolate. I had 184 responses to the form, and out of the 184 people who responded, milk chocolate won with a landslide of 133 people choosing milk chocolate! This poll had an age group range of 4th grade, 6th grade, 7th grade, 8th grade, and adults. An anonymous person said their reason for liking milk chocolate more, and I quote was “Milk chocolate is sweeter and makes my taste buds happy!” A key reason why milk chocolate is the best is because of its sweet taste. It is not overwhelmingly sweet or bitter in any way, u...

A Strange Day at School

It all started off as a nice day at school on a Friday morning. It was sunny, beautiful, and mystical oustide. Everybody was doing their morning work, Mr.Adams was doing whatever he had to do, well you probably get the point. Nothing strange was happening. I was talking to the people near me, Veer, Ananya, Jillian. It was a song day where we annotate songs. Today’s song was Unwritten by Natasha Beddingfield. I personally love listening to songs and not always writing them down. Well, I should get started with the story before I bore everybody to death.  We were on our way to music. I was in line with Roshni, Anoushka, and Anwita. I noticed that Veer and Manhar were arguing. Well, I should not say that everybody noticed, even Mr.Adams. Mr. Adams calls Manhar, Mr.Murali. He said “ Mr. Murali you don’t always have to be right. Roshni, Anwita, and Anoushka started laughing silently. I have to admit I had to laugh today. Suddenly I noticed something nobody else saw. An emotion that Veer...

The Kidnapped Singer

Prologue In France, Miss Jasmine Florez was at her singing concert with her mom. She was singing Speechless and So Long Farewell. She loves singing in front of crowds. She saw families sitting together and enjoying the performance. It broke her heart that her younger sister was not there. As the sky darkened, she called a taxi to take her home.  Her mom had been staying with her at Jewel Plaza for the past week while preparing for the concert. Jasmine’s mom was also a famous singer. Her mom stood there and said as she came in: “ You did great sweet pea.” Jasmine looked at her mom with a sad smile. Her mom beckoned for Jasmine to join her on the couch. “ Sweetie I don’t want to worry you but this came in the mail this morning,” her mom said. Her mom handed her a letter with the family crest stamped onto it. She opened it… and read it.   Chapter 1 The Return Home Jasmine and her mom’s eyes met. It was like they were talking without words. They started packing and took...

The Golden Shoes(A Short Story)

There was a poor shoemaker in the outskirts of Mayhem and Crystal city. These cities were constantly fighting. One day he was walking nearby the city and fell into an abandoned mine. He yelled for hours hoping someone would come, but nobody did. He then started to look around. Something shiny was at the corner of his eye it was pure gold. Right there he started picking up as much of gold as he could. He found a way out and started creating a rare golden shoe.  Word reached out of his fortune and people from both cities came by to see it. The leaders of both cities even came down themselves just to see this shoe. Many people wanted to buy it. People started bidding and bidding all day long. The shoemaker was exhausted and said nobody will get the shoe if the keep fighting. The shoe cannot be worn otherwise it will break. He then sold it to a rich family who bought it for their little girl. She did not listen to the shoemaker and wore it. It did not break though.  The fam...

Ways To Get Better Sleep

The average teenage needs to sleep for at least 8-10 hours. Right now I probably sleep for 7. It is important to get a good nights sleep. It ensures that you won't be tired the next day. Also a good nights sleep is necessary to be able to focus during the day. Here are some tips to sleep on time, and have a good sleep: Keep electronics away from wherever you are sleeping Don't be on a device(if possible) at least for 30 minutes before you sleep Choose outfits for the next day, so you can get a little extra sleep Pack all supplies needed for school Set two alarms one for 15 minutes before you are supposed to wake up. This helps force your mind to start waking up. That way it won't take longer to get up Drink a cup of hot water, it relaxes your mind and muscles Do homework in school, or try to finish it as fast as you can The early bird gets the worm: A benefit of sleeping on time and having a good nights sleep.

How to Study For Tests(The Procrastinator Version)

It is not easy to study for tests. Especially when you procrastinate or in other words only study at the last minute. Here are some tips on ways to study, and how to stay on task. ELA:     For vocabulary tests I recommend writing all the words down and/or making a Quizlet. In the long run it helps a lot.      For reading checks, it helps to take annotations along the way, rather than scrambling at the last minute to find key points and terms. Also reading a summary of the reading on SparkNotes always helps.      Grammar is one of the easier parts to study for because quizzes can be found anywhere online. Social Studies:     Reading checks on articles or historical texts usually only include the main points. It would be the best to make a Quizlet on key terms, characters names, and dates. Science:     Science is a bit more difficult to study for. It requires looking back at all the course material or experiment's done ...

The Story Behind a Photo

I was looking back at my old writing assignments I did for ELA in 7th grade and I found this narrative. It was supposed to be an emotional one. I remember this as one of my favorite assignments. Last Chance 5 deep breaths, check. Hope for safety, check. Don’t look down, um, already did that. Taking a glance at the press, while trembling with fear as I gaze up ahead of me to look at the river course, I start to worry about the outcome of this adventure.  Flash. Snap. Flash. Snap. The journalists and photographers are snapping pictures of me before I undergo this adventure. I can’t back out now.  Let’s do this. 3, 2, 1, 0. “Aaaaaah!” Two Weeks Before I love adventures and thrills. I am not the girl who would sit around dressing up. I’m the one who would take any risk. But, that was the old me. The one before my accident. My parents have always supported me in life. But, after my accident, they became a little paranoid if not already because of my sister. They used to be my bigge...

Hindustani Classical Music

Hindustani Classical Music is one of the oldest styles of music in the world. It originated in the Northern part of India, and is still sung today. Personal Connection: I have been learning Hindustani Classical Music since the age of 4. It is one of the best ways to keep a connection to my Indian culture. Taking out a little time as often as I can to practice it would clear my mind and allow me to just focus in the moment. It gave me a chance to take a break from everything else.    Currently I am in my 5th year of learning it even though I have been learning for almost 8 years. To learn more difficult and challenging ragas I have to take an exam to show how well I know previous ragas and information about music. My theory part consists of learning about the origins of this type of music, along with its founders and those who have spread it. The style of music is devoted to the god Saraswati who is the god of music. Another part of theory is knowing key words, that help with i...

My First 10K

Recently I did my first 10K with my mom. It was an amazing experience, and a few years ago I did a 5k too!!! Usually 10K runners spend a long time preparing I ran in the morning for only a week before the 10K. I had a pretty good stamina during the run even though I did not prepare much. Here's a secret(I walked most of the time) because 10K's are really long to me. They are around 6 miles, on the other hand a 5K is around 3 miles. There were so many people cheering the runners on and it pushed me to finish. My mom kept on asking if I wanted to take a break, but I always said no. I did not stop once during the whole run, even when I took  a water break I waled slowly.  Once you start running you don't want to stop because you'll lose momentum. The definition of momentum is "the strength or force that something has when it is moving. : the strength or force that allows something to continue or to grow stronger or faster as time passes. physics : the property that a ...

Hair Story(lesson learned eeep)

This is a life lesson!!!  I was using a curling brush and wanted to try something new with it. It was a big mistake,  I tried to roll my hair upward like it was a curling iron. The brush got stuck in my hair when I tried to take it out. My mom spent such a long time taking it out. My dad said we might have had to cut it out, I was so scared of cutting it. The brush got tangled up in a big chunk of hair.  Now I only trust one brush! This is a lesson because it teaches you to always be careful when trying new things. You never know what might happen.

1 Year Post Anniversary

Two days ago was the one year anniversary of my very first post on my blog. I have been writing on it for a year now!!!!  I had wanted to write a blog for such a long time, but was never able to find time to do it. Coronavirus gave me a reason to do it, so I guess that is one of the pros of this pandemic. Blogging is not just a hobby anymore, it is a huge part of my life. It helps me express myself, and during this pandemic it is hard to do that. If coronavirus had never happened I would not have created a blog most likely.  Buddha once said " Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment." It is important to stay focused on the present not the past or future. Life is like a roller coaster, it has its ups and downs. Even when life takes a toll it should never affect anyone for the rest of their life. Nothing happens without a reason, even a downfall has a reason. Mistakes happen and it important to move on and take them ...
